Machu
Pichu - jan5th
For
anyone who is thinking of going to Machu Pichu, just book your trip and do it.
We have been to Copan in Honduras, and Tikal in Guatemala and in our opinion
they do not hold a candle to Machu Pichu. The location alone is astounding,
perched up on a mountain top surrounded by steep canyons and lush tropical
forest it is something to be experienced first hand.

There are of course many
theories of why the Inca’s chose this location and for me that is part of the
attraction and mystery. There are many parts to the ruins and it is a full day
of exploring and taking pictures. We even have a picnic lunch on one of the
terraces overlooking the canyon with the clouds shrouding the peaks above.
Before we know it the time comes for us to leave The Lost City of the Inca’s
and make our way back to Sta. Teresa, our time with the ancients is complete.
The
bike storage business is alive and well, there are three other Alberta bikes in
the lobby when we return. All Suzuki DR650’s, loaded with gear and mud. They
were nice enough to leave a sticker on my bike, “Pollo Loco, Hermanos”. There was also a
bike from Peru Moto Tours that was rented by a young German couple, Christine
and Michael. They were on holidays and thought it would be fun to rent a bike
and go to Machu Pichu, they were also surprised by the rain and cold in the
pass. They actually rode the 28km dirt road in the dark as the 400cc rental
bike was a little underpowered for two people and the steep mountain roads.
Brenda and I can’t believe they made it in the dark, the road is carved into
the side of the mountain with tight corners and no shoulders or safety rails, never
mind the water crossings. Michael said at time he just cracked the throttle and
hoped for the best.We shared our experiences of the day and other travels
before turning in for the night.
Hi Stew and Brenda, Reading your blog and enjoying your travels. I can ditto your remarks about Machu Pichu. We were there in the early 80's and it is one of the most amazing places I've been. I'm sure your missing the great white north? Not really? Thanks for and keep up the writing, we are following you. Safe travels, Larry
